Orchestrion Favorites: The Welte at the Pittsburgh Frick MuseumpadAn orchestrion is a self-playing pipe organ that imitates the sounds of orchestral instruments. The Welte Style No. 6 concert orchestrion at the Frick residence in Pittsburgh was purchased in 1892 at the recommendation of Mr. Frick�s business partner, Andrew Carnegie. It is one of four still in existence and its original pneumatic mechanism was restored in 1991 by Durward R. Center of Baltimore. The music on this recording comes from rolls that are played for visitors to the Frick home on the grounds of the Frick Art & Historical Center. Sidney Torch: Hot Pipes, KilburnpadSidney Torch enjoyed enormous popularity as a brilliant and entertaining English theatre organist, broadcasting and making many phonograph records. After joining the Royal Air Force in 1940 he played a theatre organ only once again.
