Virgil Fox: The Bach Gamut Vol. 1

For the first time, recordings of these famous concerts are being released. In September 1976, Virgil Fox played two Bach Gamut concerts to audiences of 5,500 people at St. Marys Cathedral, San Francisco, surveying Bachs works in all musical keys from A to G. This package comes with both a DVD (with 5.1 surround sound) and a separate, conventional, audio CD bearing the same program in stereo (actually, as an HDCD for those who can take advantage of the high definition technology). Included on the video track of the DVD is a TV interview given by Virgil Fox prior to the concerts as well as newly generated kaleidoscopic images such as those made famous in Foxs live light shows with organ. Audio guru Dr. Keith Johnson recorded the concerts live using state-of-the-art 3-channel analog tape and recently transferred the technically superb signal to 2.0 digital stereo for the CD. William T. Allgood created the Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound for the DVD-Video disc soundtrack. Fox plays some pieces on his touring electronic that had been temporarily installed at the Cathedral; the rest are played on the Cathedrals 4-manual, 89-rank Ruffati pipe organ (the producer does not identify which pieces are played on which organ).
