For double choir, orchestra, and great organ:The Last Gospel is performed at Notre-Dame Cathedral, Paris, by Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Maîtrise Notre-Dame de Paris (the choir) directed by John Nelson; Olivier Latry, organist. Escaich composed this work on commission to “bear testimony to 2000 years of Christianity.” It is based on the Prologue of the Gospel according to St. John. Then, Escaich improvises on the cathedral organ. |
