In this more recent single video of 1 hour and 38 minutes duration, Daniel Roth explains the history of music and art at the Church of St. Sulpice in Paris, beginning before the French Revolution and continuing through the time of Albert Schweitzer. Both of the two organs at St. Sulpice are featured: the famous (and now beautifully restored) five-manual Cavaill�-Coll Grande Orgue built 1857-62 in the West gallery and incorporating the earlier organ by Clicquot; and the two-manual, 28-rank Cavaill�-Coll organ built in 1858 in the front of the church to accompany the choir, with Roth performing more than 45 minutes of music on them. The stereo sound quality is exceptional on this VHS video, recorded with digital equipment and transferred to the VHS Hi-Fi sound track. There is also a conventional sound track for older VCRs to play. Fr�d�ric Blanc, noted Parisian organist and prize-winner, plays Durufl� and teaches improvisation techniques on the beautiful Cavaill�-Coll organ of Notre Dame d�Auteuil. Using the model of the French suite, he instructs in a very clear, methodical way. Blanc, Secretary of the Durufl� Association, resides in the Durufl� home as heir and curator to the music and musical legacy of this famous musical family.

Marie-Louise Langlais Master Class on Franck

at St-Clotilde, where Franck was organist. Several excellent students play and receive insights from Mme. Langlais especially for this video recorded in April, 1998. After an introduction to the organ at St-Clotilde and a discussion of how the church architecture affected its design, Mme. Langlais gives video master classes on Fantasy in A, Cantabile, and Pi�ce H�roique. After the master class, the titulaire, Jacques taddei, improvises and talks about his life as a musician in France. Of about 3 hours duration, the video and sound quality are serviceable.

Langlais Lectures & Performs

in his studio and at his home with groups of students. This memento of the master of St-Clotilde were made after a stroke had made words hard to form for Jean Langlais, so his wife Marie-Louise Langlais speaks for him through much of the tape, informing students about his life and about the performance of various works. Yves Castagnet, choir organist at Notre-Dame in Paris, also performs. The video and sound quality are serviceable.
