Photographer Philippe Cicchero surveys the organs of all the cathedrals of France in a handsome book of color photographs and stoplists. An historical summary of each organ appears in both French and English. Even those cathedrals without organs are pictured in a chapter called Edifices sans Voix. The preface is by Marie-Claire Alain and an afterword is by organbuilder Philippe Hartmann. The organs are presented by geographical departments, but an alphabetical index makes reference easy. More than 180 photos, most full page. 8 1/4" x 12", 360 pp. Included also is a CD of Pierre Cochereau playing a previously unreleased improvisation.
