From his workshop in northwest Germany, Jürgen Ahrend has earned a reputation for sensitive and informed new organs and restorations. Completion in 1993 of the 1693 Arp Schnitger at St. Jacobi in Hamburg corwns a career which has made him the protector and interpreter of organs by Christian Müller, Joachim Wagner, berendt Huess Jörg Ebert, Peter Jansz de Swart, at least two other Schnitgers, and a host of other built in the 1400s to the 1800s. In this book from the American Organ Academy, Lawrence Moe writes of Ahrend's career and the organs he has built and. rebuilt; Fritz Noack writes an anecdotal appreciation, and Ahrend himself writes of the Hamburg Schnitger restoration. There are an opus list, eleven stoplists, a bibliography gathered by James L.
