Ladegast-Sauer Organ Wilhelm Sauer built a 93-stop organ at St. Nikolai Church, Leipzig, in 1903, using many of the pipes of the 1862 Ladegast organ that preceded it. The magnificent result was restored in 1988, but was removed in 2002 in favor of recreating the Ladegast, thus destroying the fabulous Sauer. Even the Porsche automobile firm was convinced to fund this effort for the Eule firm to build a new organ in the style of Ladegast, though only about 30% of the pipes and none of the mechanism of the Ladegast remained. Former organist of the church Wolfgang Hofmann plays Karg-Elert, Johannes Weyrauch, Bach, Karl Hoyer, and Reger.

Huge 19th Century Orchestral Organ Joachim Walter plays transcriptions written by Hermann Jimmerthal (1809-1866), organist at the giant 1854 Schulze organ in St. Marys, Lbeck, that demonstrate fascinating and unexpected, kaleidoscopic, registration practices. Works he transcribed include Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, Mozart's Jupiter Symphony, etc. Since the organ at St. Mary's was destroyed during World War II, this CD is recorded on the 1871 Ladegast 4m at the Cathedral in Schwerin, one of the worlds largest at the time it was built and similar in its stoplist.

Bruce Stevens Plays">Rheinberger Organ Sonatas Bruce Stevens Plays "Nothing but the highest accolades are warranted for this splendid recording," reviews The American Record Guide, September-October, 2001, of the fourth volume, "a showcase of artistic organ playing. Discretion, cleanness, clarity, stylistic awareness are tempered by purely musical values. Stevens . . . is able to achieve expressivity in the romantic sense via agogic stresses and to do it without sentimentality. . . This is an auspicious release to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the composer's death in 1901." Click for more information on all four volumes and the organs.

Tom Murray's Mendelssohn These famous recordings of all six sonatas (Op. 65) have received the highest praise for the playing, sound, and the magnificent organs in Boston: the 3m E. & G. G. Hook of 1854 at the Hook brothers home church and the wonderful 1857 W. B. D. Simmons 2m at Most Holy Redeemer Church. These two beautiful organs, entirely intact and almost contemporaneous to the sonatas, represent more than any other extant organ, anywhere, the sounds heard when these works were introduced to a spellbound England.
