Giovanni Gabrieli of Venice had become Italy�s leading composer by about 1600, but his roots were in Germany at the Munich court of Duke Albrecht V of Bavaria under Orlando di Lasso and his music remained popular and published in Germany long after he was forgotten in Venice. These ensemble works are performed by The Musicalishe Compagney, based in Berlin, and comprising voices and instruments including organ.
