Born in England (1858-1944), at the height of the Victorian era, made waves not only as a woman composer who managed to study in Leipzig with the likes of Tschaikowsky and meet with Clara Schumann, Brahms and Grieg, but as an active member of the English suffragette movement. Her Mass in D for soloists, choir, orchestra and organ is heard here in a live recording by the W�rttembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen and the Philharmonia Chor Stuttgart.
