Words of Albert Schweitzer and the Music of Bach Thurston Moore created this “musical dramatization” using the philosophical writings of Albert Schweitzer (organ theorist, organist, physician, philosopher, editor of Bach’s organ works, 1952 Nobel Peace Prize laureate) interspersed with Bach organ works and 276 images viewed by the audience. On this CD, Robert Thurman speaks the text and Gail Archer performs the seven organ works. The program begins with Leopold Stokowski’s 1947 recording of his transcription for orchestra of the Toccata in d, BWV 565. The CD provides both an enjoyable and moving experience in itself as well as a “preview” of the entire production. Churches, AGO chapters, etc., can use this CD to help their consideration of whether to present the full program for an audience. It can be mounted with a single organist or multiple organists, one or three speakers, and image projection equipment and contact with Thurston Moore’s Tennessee Players, Inc.
