This disc presents a unique listening experience drawn from more than 21 hours of audiotape recorded July 7-12, 1969, as Virgil Fox teaches in his Englewood, New Jersey home and takes his class on a field trip to Newark’s Sacred Heart Cathedral. We also hear interviews by Arlene Frances on WOR radio in 1968 and by Joseph Graif on WKCR FM radio in 1974. The focus of the recording is to present Fox’s teaching and interaction with his students. There are sound illustrations, but the listener should be prepared for sound typical of consumer tape recorders in 1969.
Material discussed includes the Widor Toccata, a Bach Trio Sonata, Brahms’ Chorale Preludes, the Langlais Te Deum, Sowerby Toccata, Bach Wedge Fugue, hymn playing, accompanying Handel’s Messiah and much more. A PDF file is contained on the disc which outlines the sections of the recording and may be printed for convenient reference.
The MP3CD format allows this very large amount of material to be presented on a single disc. You may play the disc on most computers or on an MP3 player, but not in a CD player unless it has MP3 capability.
