Peter Pelham Manuscript of 1744 H. Joseph Butler, editor. Peter Pelham (1721-1805), the Colonial organist of Bruton Parish Church, Williamsburg, Virginia, made a copybook containing 23 keyboard works of high quality, some probably by him, one by his teacher Charles Theodore Pachelbel, and other tunes popular in Anglo-American society. Extensive notes and biography are included, revealing such interesting information as Pelham’s second job as the town jailer. An excellent source for authentic early keyboard/organ music heard in America, some of these works have been used for years in demonstrations at Colonial Williamsburg.
