Mieczyslaw Surzynski Organ Concerto & Solo WorksMieczyslaw Surzynski Organ Concerto & Solo WorkspadMieczyslaw Surzynski 1866-1925, the son of an organist, teacher, and conductor and brother of three more organists, was the most prominent Polish composer of organ music in the Romantic era. The organ concerto, composed in 1904, was believed lost in a fire at the Warsaw Philharmonic in 1938, but was found in 1990. In 1902, he won First Prize in an organ competition in St. Petersburg for improvising on “O Holy God,” then published it in 1906 to become his best known work. The Sonata in d, among his more important works, also dates to ca. 1905. HENRI TOMASI: Semaine sainte a cuzco
GERHARD DEUTSCHMANN: Introductino & Allegro

Windows - Okna - Fenster A window by any other name . . . Taking its title from Eben’s famous work for trumpet and organ (inspired by 12 stained-glass windows of Marc Chagall’s creation), this CD explores other riches composed in the 20th century for this favorite combination of instruments. The little-known Karg-Elert piece is worth the price of admission (and there is more organ than trumpet in this work, perhaps explaining its obscurity)! Great sound and interesting music. Martin Sander plays the very well matched 1983 Sandtner organ in the Münster at Villingen, Germany.

Job for Organ <br>by Petr EbenJob for Organ
by Petr Eben
padJOB for Organ The composer writes of his reasons for composing this 8-movement work, one hour in duration, “The Book of Job interested me for three reasons: firstly because of the social and theological revolution it represented in its time; until then every poor, sick or unfortunate being was regarded as forsaken and punished by God. Secondly, I was deeply impressed by the dramatic depth of this Book, which gives men once and for all the key to overcome a trial of faith. Finally, I find this book extremely topical. It answers one of the most difficult questions on life asked to this day: why do good people suffer misfortunes?” A narrator introduces each movement with a brief reading from the Book of Job. Thomás Thon plays a large 3m Rieger-Kloss organ.
